Free EU Import Tools for Customs Compliance

Three free tools that together cover your import compliance — from tariff calculation to CBAM costs to HS code validation.

Importing into the EU means dealing with multiple layers of regulation: import duties and preferential tariffs, anti-dumping rates, member-state VAT, CBAM certificates for steel/aluminium/cement/fertilisers/hydrogen, and the correct HS or CN code for every product. One wrong classification or a missed scheme costs money or leads to customs delays.

These three tools are designed to make that complexity manageable — each for a different moment in your import process. Calculate your expected landed cost first with the Duty Calculator. Working with CBAM-applicable products (CN codes in chapters 25, 26, 28, 31, 72, 73 or 76)? Add the indicative CBAM cost using the official DG TAXUD price and EU default values. And if you’re unsure about an HS code classification, run the Sanity Check to compare your product description against TARIC and see whether the code is likely correct.

All three tools run on public EU data sources (TARIC, CBAM Implementing Regulations 2025/2620 + 2025/2621, DG TAXUD price feed) and are free to use without an account. For bulk processing, API access, or audit-trail capabilities, a paid plan is available.

FAQ

Import8 provides three free tools: the Duty Calculator (import duty + VAT per EU member state), the CBAM Calculator (CO₂ levy on steel/aluminium/cement/fertilisers/hydrogen) and the HS Code Sanity Check (validation of existing classifications). All three are free to use without an account.
Enter your 6, 8, or 10-digit HS or TARIC code, country of origin, and product value in the Duty Calculator. You instantly get the MFN rate, available preferential rates (trade agreements), anti-dumping duties, and VAT for your destination member state. Optional: enter shipping and insurance for the full landed cost.
CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) is an EU levy on the CO₂ emissions embedded in imported goods, in its definitive phase since 2026. The CBAM Calculator computes indicative costs by CN code, country of origin, and mass, based on the official DG TAXUD price and EU default values from Implementing Regulations (EU) 2025/2620 + 2025/2621.
Upload a CSV of product descriptions and your HS codes to the Sanity Check. The tool compares each row against the TARIC database and labels every product as plausible, doubtful, or likely_wrong — with a short explanation. Intended as a pre-import sanity layer, not as a replacement for a customs broker.
Import duty is the classic EU tariff on foreign goods, based on HS code and origin (variable per trade agreement). CBAM is an additional levy specifically on the CO₂ emissions of certain sectors (steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers, hydrogen, electricity). Both apply in parallel — for CBAM-applicable products you pay both import duty and CBAM certificates.
